Ok this is real rare. A time when i actually manage to get down to write something on this blog. Ah shits the english is all wrong but oh wells:)
Its like the world is moving...but your not. Standing still...nothing going on in your life. But maybe thats the way its meant to be. Everything happens for a reason.
Printed lotsa holiday photos for my dad today... surprisingly the ink is still holding up well.
But no one really wants to know about what i did today blah blah eh...
Well ive been sitting on something for a while....my very own "Music Awards".
Well that would take quite a while..and all that i can do is list some CDS that you have to listen to. Sounds cheesy but its prob the current soundtrack for my life eh...
1) The Strokes - Room on Fire Hell its the Strokes new album... and its so...good. Very different from anything ive heard..ever...except their previous/first album which is "Is This It" which is so so so so wicked.
2)Mayday(WuYueTian) - We Are Mayday Ok...this is it...the chinese rock band that takes the cake... i mean..if their chinese lyrics could make me start reading chinese all over again...hell thats gotta count for something. Try these songs for starters: Wen Rou, Cai hong, ren shen hai hai. Also..dont forget their hokkien songs: Gong lang, and one more which i cant rem the name...shucks..

Every song is good... for starters, try: Is This It, Soma, 12:51 These guys are too too too too good. And someone is having so much fun while im suffering here! grrrrrr
Okae their first album, Is This It, really caught me by surprise... it was so different and great..its like these guys got caught in the 70's? i dont know...but its just diff.
So i was expecting a lot from this album after hearing the single 12.51 on their website. It was the same familiar strokes that i came to love.
OK ADD MORE ANOTHER TIME TOO LAZY and id rather just tell someone.
Feeling kinda different nowadays even with all the work :D Its a really different feeling.

This morning... i woke up and was downloading adobe indesign 2.0 trial version when something beautiful happened.
Foreign domestic workers, also known as maids(kinda makes u cringe when u type this word out.)
I opened my windows to get fresh air... and lo and behold, someone was singing Linkin Park's new single NUMB. It was a female voice..and it was loud and pretty good.
Now who did that belong to? i looked around... and i saw all the maids in the houses around mine clustering near the fences... and one of them was singing..
It dawned on me that...hey..they arent that different from us... they are about 19 - 26 years old from indonesia..and other than the fact that they are working as a domestic worker here, they are just like us.
I dont know why..this really hit me hard...very hard.. i opened my windows wider and took out my meteora linkin park cd(which had a layer of dust on it). I popped it in the cd player and proceeded to blast it. It would perk them up i hope....some music to sing along too.
I ran down and saw my maid grinning...she asked me, "Numb by linkin park?" "Yeah! who was singing just now?" She pointed the maid across the fence and grinned.
"Linkin park got concert in Indonesia and malaysia you know..." she said to me seconds later...
"Yeah i know...but how did YOU know?" i asked.(we dont have any berita harian hanging around our house)
"Radio." she said.. She then told me that according to her friends(by letters) all the linkin park cds in indonesia were sold out.
"I like Chester Bennington" she told me...before saying all the names of the other members.
I agreed with her and rushed up to my room to continue with work and broadcast of the LINKIN Park cd through my window for all the maids. I was so tempted to play DJ and announce all the songs to them but was stopped by myself as i doubt their employers would appreciate it.
My maid also known as Septi, came up to collect something from my room....
I turned and saw her.... she was really enjoying the music.. and requested for NUMB, the new single from linkin park.
I changed track to NUMB... and for the next few mins, something stranged happened.
The music was on quite loud...and we both...yes we BOTH...started singing to the song..out loud.
One song, and the divide between us, Singaporean and Indonesian, Employer and Employee, Male and Female, Christian and Muslim, was BROKEN.
It didnt matter that we both sang the song slightly differently..nothing mattered...we were just singing because the song meant something to both of us. It was a tune we liked and all the barriers that divided us was broken.
Suddenly Septi wasnt just someone who did the house work...or someone who cooked... suddenly, it all seemed very very clear.
After our singing session, we both went down as i had to leave the house. While putting on my shoes, we were once again discussing music.... I knew she liked metallica and she was asking me about the top 20 charts which i knew nuts about. I asked her what other bands/musicians she liked...
Limp Bizkit, Coldplay...and even JASON Mraz. Jason Mraz!!!! i mean he was rather obscure but now hes more popular and yeah... even she knew about jason mraz(he is an acquired taste).
I walked out of the house today... pondering over what just happened. Maybe we arent all that different. One love of music allowed us to cross these borders that we so easily put up.
I made a friend today. And i hope she made one too.
Argh this is hard. Maintaining a "blog". I always seem to have a lot of things to say or do or write but it just doesnt seem to come out when i want it to.
ok... i admit im kinda tempted to tell you guys/girls about my day...but thats just gonna turn you off, i think.
*after 5 mins of thinking*
Show watched with mom - Homerun Hmm. You can look at this show in 2 ways. 1) As just a show about a boy and his sister and blah blah. 2) A show full of mmm..."politics"? The whole show is peppered with references to the Singapore vs Malaysia water issue.
Either way, i liked this show. I thought it was so so clever and the ending was just killer. Its true how we dont see some problems until we have to face it. Its really a must watch and i have no idea why so many people dont wanna catch it. Just because its Singaporean? Just because its a reinterpretation of another show(children of heaven)? Well....you should catch it...it almost made me
XIII is a new cell shader game. I got the demo a few days back and its gooooooD! Just imagine playing a comic looking first person shooter! Its a real promising game, a definate must buy when it comes out.
mmmm... WUYUETIAN (Mayday) is having a concert here in Singapore on OCT 25th! Im definately going and anyone who wants to join me please drop me an email or message. brendan_ang@hotmail.com
Heard from my friend Denise that Borders is having a CD sale. Got to check that out!
Ah the agony of the First Post. I really use to dislike blogs and stuff...its always about the person. And i can bet my butt that no one really wants to read about what i did today. Thus ill try have interesting stuff here...announcements...reviews..erm.. whatever i can think off k. Ok and maybe a small part on what i did that day. After all its a blog, no?
My (almost) weekly HMV visits are one of the highlights of the week. This weeks one which was on..erm..sunday morning was not too good. A few Cds i heard:
Freddy vs. Jason - 2nd time listening to it...its a real heavy album. Some nice tracks esp the one from Mushroomhead(www.mushroomhead.net). The first song and lead single of this album is not bad too. Its by Ill Nino and if im not wrong its "how do i live". Weak side of the album is that...argh...it just doesnt have enough strong tracks. its a [NO BUY] for me!
Adema - Some weird title. This just didnt do it for me. I ahve the remix album(adema's dream) and its way way better to me. Its really nu-metal at its plainest. But its just me...its so plain i really dont know how to review it. [NO BUY]
Listened to some other cds...but not significant.
Sister bought the new Jay Chou cd (i have no idea why) and its..well..im still listening to it...will tell you how long it lasts on me. stay posted on this.
Finally i have been given the green light to start promotion and recruitment for the NP Wakeboarding club/team. Will be bringing down some committee members to ride on thursday(28 aug) and maybe have a meeting. Would try set up a booth sometime. Any NP people reading this and would like to join Wakeboarding as a CCA(dont worry if you dont know how to ride yet..there will be an intro course) please drop me an email at brendan_ang@hotmail.com Intro course is planned for november, date tbc
Got a visit to Asia pacific breweries tomorrow for an excursion(when was the last time i heard those words...sec 2?). Home of tiger beer. Organised by the Science and Technology IS module im taking. Nice teacher.
*a random thought suddenly hits me* Have you ever noticed that ANGMOHS always park their cars head in and Asians park their cars Back-side in? i seriously wonder why.... i have some "theories" but ill be waiting to hear from you guys/girls.
*another random thought* How come its kinda ok for males to call a group of friends(consisting of both genders) "GUYS" and not ok to call a group of friends(again of both genders) "GIRLS".
Ok. Ran dry. High and Dry -by radiohead. Nice song. Im kinda thinking if i should leave you with some lyrics...hmmmm
Maybe tomorrow. Seeya! Remember to post your views on the random thoughts i had.
